Dresden, Germany: customized quality with RHEDA CITY

RAILONE has been supplying concrete sleepers to Dresden's municipal transport authority (DVB) since 1996. Two years later it began a collaboration whose positive effects are still being felt today: in close cooperation with DVB, it developed a 100% customized rail system that is perfectly coordinated with the transport authority's overall conditions and requirements.

Project details:

  • The project took account of rail type, elastic rail support, rail deflection, system structure, height of track concrete layer plate and covering
  • The DVB version of the RHEDA CITY ballastless track system now provides the superstructure of the Dresden tramway, with discrete elastic supports for the rails
  • The combination of elastic supports and the soft Ri 53 rail provided substantial benefits in terms of vibration and structure-borne noise
  • The first segment was installed on June 16, 1998, with 60 meters of double track on a section of Reicker Strasse, which served as a pilot project. The positive experience with this segment led to an equally successful second pilot project
  • Now, the Dresden-type superstructure is installed as standard solution with covered, grooved rail tracks. The entire rail system now has a length of about 82 km.
