Edinburgh, UK: maximum flexibility with RHEDA CITY

The Edinburgh Tram, linking the airport with the city center in Scotland's capital, covers a distance of 14 kilometers and has 15 stops. It was opened in 2014. Specialists from RAILONE were sent to this project for about 2 years for planning.

Project details:

  • The line involves complex routing that includes inclines, varying substructure conditions, and track coverings ranging from asphalt to grass
  • RAILONE was awarded the contract because it offered a proven ballastless track system as well as ballasted and turnout sleepers
  • The appeal of the RHEDA CITY system that was used, together with its RHEDA CITY GRÜN variation, lies in the ease with which they can be adapted to these substructures, their long service life and flexibility of use for all types of routing
  • The quality assurance documentation required of the track systems used in the projects also lived up to the project's strict quality standards
  • RAILONE supplied approx. 7,000 sleepers of the RHEDA CITY type and approx. 14,000 RHEDA CITY GREEN sleepers
