Lehmsief, Germany: GETRAC® for difficult substructures

The section of line from Stolberg-Herzogenrath passes through the marshy area of Lehmsief at the Stolberg end and passes below the Aachen-Cologne fast line. It was refurbished in 2015-2016.RAILONE was involved in the project from the preliminary design phase in order to make a decision on the system. This decision was made in favor of GETRAC® A3. To implement the project, an approval was applied for from the EBA (German Federal Railway Authority), whereby evidence was provided and tests were carried out in advance to confirm that the selected construction method meet the requirements. For the first time in Germany, the GETRAC® A3 system was realized with an asphalt layer of only 85 mm in a very flat construction

Project details:

  • The line used the GETRAC® A3 system and was adapted to the existing intersection enabling it to pass below the Aachen-Cologne high-speed line
  • The GETRAC® A3 ballastless track system needs no internal grounding, which means it was possible to electrify the line without additional planning or system adaptation
  • The product was selected because the ballastless track system could be supplied quickly
  • RAILONE supplied approx. 500 GETRAC® A3 sleepers
