Utrecht Uithoflijn, Netherlands: Extension of the light rail network in Utrecht: New route with technical precision

The city of Utrecht planned to extend the existing light rail network from the central station to the university campus in the Utrecht Science Park. The project included the construction of an 8 km long track system with 9 stations and 27 new tramways, which will travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. 439 m of the track runs alongside the University Medical Center Utrecht. In order to protect the sensitive equipment and installations from electromagnetic radiation, very high technical requirements were placed on the electrical insulation of the track. Electrical rail insulation was developed specifically for the project. RAILONE also supported the project by developing and supplying suitable variants of the RHEDA City System.
