Amstelveenlijn, Amsterdam, Netherlands: RHEDA CITY as safe and green solution for the city of Amsterdam

The Amstelveen line is a new high-quality tram connection from Amsterdam West to Amsterdam South. This line was reconstructed because the former express trams were outdated, often overcrowded, did not run frequently and were sensitive to breakdowns. Traffic safety around the line was not optimal either. RAILONE supplied the RHEDA CITY GREEN system and provided engineering services to our client Amsterdam Transport Region for this project. Construction works were complex and included the separation of the Amstelveen line from the local metro network. This solution was chosen because it helps reducing noise pollution and is very cost effective due to low track maintenance requirements. The main construction work on the Amstelveen line was completed after almost 2 years of construction. Metro and Tram of the municipality of Amsterdam supervised the implementation and VITAL is the main contractor for this project. The renewed Amstelveen Line 25 started operating on 13th December 2020.
