Schwandorf, Germany: Industry 4.0 for turnout sleeper production.


From planning to setting up: RAILONE’s first production facility with an industry 4.0 approach was inaugurated in October 2019. It was successfully completed within the planned construction period of two years making the facility one of the most modern turnout sleeper plant in the world. The production plant is located in Schwandorf, Bavaria and is an automated carousel system with end anchoring technology and late demolding production process, which also includes the use of robotic solutions. The reason for choosing this location was to serve the DB networks in South and Southeast German market in specific. This production facility produces all kind of turnout sleepers used in both straight lines and curve maintaining RAILONE’s high quality standards.


Project details:

  • The production facility has a surface of 16,000 m2
  • Production capacity of this facility is 180,000 linear meters of turnout sleepers per year (in one shift with an output of 750 m2 per day)
  • The facility offers 34 work places in production and administration
  • Two modern articulated robots are integrated at the production site; one used for spraying the molds with releasing agent and other used for placing various mounting parts into the molds
