HOHENTHURM-PEISSEN, GERMANY: GETRAC® A3 FOR EASY INSTALLMENT IN WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS

Just in time for the anniversary of the Reformation in Lutherstadt Wittenberg in 2017 and the commissioning of the new long-distance connection Munich - Nuremberg - Halle/Leipzig - Berlin (VDE 8), the entire superstructure of the Hohenthurm - Peissen section was renewed. The particularly tight schedule until completion and the seasonal winter weather conditions during the construction period were particularly challenging (end of December 2016 to April 2017). The great advantage of the GETRAC® A3 ballastless track system was shown to its best in this project: even at sub-zero temperatures, installation was carried out without any problems. In addition to the track system, RAILONE also provided a wide range of planning services, including drainage planning and noise emission assessment.

Project details:

  • The length of the line is approx. 4.7 km
  • With an operating speed of approx. 160 km/h, trains run on the line. It can be increased to 230 km/h
  • In addition to the main delivery of approx. 14,500 BBS3 W60 sleepers of the GETRAC® A3 system, RAILONE also supplied B 355.3 sleepers of the RHEDA 2000® ballastless track system and B 320 and B 70 ballasted sleepers for the project
  • An economical and environmentally friendly solution resulted from the use of the asphalt base layers that could still be used and the resulting minimal new construction work
  • The connection is now one of the preferred TEN (Trans-European Networks) routes
  • GETRAC® A3 was also used on most of the bridges
