Hanau-Nantenbach, Germany: Ballastless track for various conditions


RHEDA 2000® was installed between May and December 2016 on the line 5200 Würzburg-Aschaffenburg in the Hanau-Nantenbach section. This project shows the impressive versatility of RHEDA 2000® under different conditions. The ballastless track system was used in tunnels, troughs, on earthworks and short bridges. The 160-year-old Schwarzkopf tunnel between Laufach and Heigenbrücken was built to improve the quality of the line.


Project details:

  • The line is regarded as a central axis of long-distance and freight transport between the economic center of the Rhine-Main region, Wurzburg and Franconia

  • The aim of the line extension was to increase the line capacity and improve the operating quality

  • Faster connections are now available for passenger and freight traffic and noise emissions have been significantly reduce

  • The section is approx. 6 km long and designed for axle loads of approx. 22.5 t

  • The operating speed of the line is approx. 160 km/h
